HUNTING CAPE BUFFALO
Africa’s Most Respected Dangerous Game Animal
Weighing over 800 kg and standing up to 140 cm at the shoulder, the Cape Buffalo has rightfully earned its reputation as one of Africa’s most formidable animals. Consequently, it is often referred to as the “Black Death” and is widely regarded as one of the continent’s most challenging dangerous game species.
Cape Buffalo are highly social animals and can often be found in herds numbering well over a hundred individuals. However, the true intrigue lies with the smaller groups of mature bulls that spend much of their time in thick cover and muddy wallows near seasonal and perennial water sources. As these older bulls separate from the protection of the main herd, they become increasingly independent and defensive. Furthermore, their habit of spending hours wallowing in mud has earned them the famous nickname “Dagga Boys,” a term derived from the muddy areas they favor. As a result, these solitary bulls are often considered the ultimate trophy for many dangerous game hunters.
